YPIEE

For the YPIEE (Young People, ICT and Ethics Exploration) project, GSI is part of a team, comprised also of IRiS/Sheffield University, DC10plus (Digital Challenge Network), Plymouth University and Trilateral Research, that is debating the ethical and inclusion impacts of IT systems as they are targeted to or used by young people. The group is drawing upon the work already developed within Europe by the SENIOR Project, which considers similar issues around e-Inclusion for older people.  The group is exploring issues from the perspective of different types of stakeholders – from policy makers, to industrial actors, to service organisations and agencies, to end-users and their advocates – along the entire life span of an ICT project impacting young people (from needs analysis through the ultimate deployment and use, to the ultimate termination of the ICT service). The focus of this work will be upon those systems or services that will be deployed in the public domain. The end result of the project should be a clear set of principles for those responsible for deploying services that have young people as one of their end user groups and for suppliers to refer to when tendering for contracts.
